Producer Judd Apatow has confirmed that Ron Burgundy, Veronica Corningstone and the rest of the Channel 4 News gang will return on the big screen on December 20, 2013 for the sequel of the 2004 comedy movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
Apatow announced the release date for the highly-anticipated sequel via his Twitter account on Wednesday: “One year from tomorrow Anchorman 2 will be in theaters!! It is kind of a big deal.”
Will Ferrel and Christina Applegate will reprise their roles as Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone, respectively, in the follow-up film tentatively titled, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Adam McKay will return to direct.
Paul Rudd, David Koechner, Steve Carell and Fred Willard are also part of the sequel’s cast.
According to Apatow, Ferrell and Mckay have collaborated and came up with the most ‘hilarious’ script.
“We read it a few weeks ago and people were laughing so hard that at about 40 minutes in we all just ran out of gas. It was hard to read the whole thing because we got tired [from laughing,” Apatow said to MTV.
“I’ve never seen anyone delight in playing a character than Will acting like Ron Burgundy all day. He’s just so happy doing it it’s infectious,” Apatow added.
The plot of the Anchorman sequel remains to be a top secret. “I can’t give it away because it’s more secret than the next ‘Star Wars.’ All I can say is that there are no Wookies in it. But it’s top-secret,” said Apatow.
